Priory
Players Youth Theatre:
We're
a small group of around 16 young people between the ages
of 10-16, who all share the same love for acting and the
theatre. We generally put on 2 productions a year, in Frimley
Parish Hall. We're managed and directed by Philip Gough,
a long standing member of Priory Players, who has support
from Assistant Leader Tom Penfold,
and many Priory Players members. We also contribute to
Priory Players' Cheese and Wine evenings and bi-annual
Pantomimes, and involve ourselves in local theatrical events,
including those run by the National Association of Youth
Theatres. Members of PPYT have gone on to join Surrey County
Youth Theatre, The National Youth Theatre, and of course,
Priory Players!

Group
Leader, Philip Gough:
"Priory
Players Youth Theatre was set up in conjunction with Priory
Players as a youth club, with a focus on theatre. It is not
a 'Theatre School' .
All
the group leaders are volunteers and members of Priory Players
with eons of experience in drama groups. We wish to give local
young people the opportunity to enjoy theatre as much as we
do.
I joined a youth theatre in London at 16. The group evolved
into a semi professional company, writing our own plays and
taking 'experimental' plays to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival,
one of which was selected to appear at the Royal Court Theatre,
London.
I then joined an English Theatre in Tel Aviv, Israel, and
worked in film, CD-ROMs, stage, television, and musicals.
After 15 years, I returned to England and joined Priory Players.
I've worked backstage, on stage, directed and written plays.
So it's time to pass on the tools to another generation...
I have thoroughly enjoyed working with this great bunch of
young people. They keep the fire of creativity burning within
me, which drives me on to stretch their horizons. They make
me laugh, astonish me with their depth of characterisation,
and their commitment to each other. I am very pleased at their
progress on the stage, but more so as well rounded, confident
people. Thank you guys."
